Quinta de Sant’Ana, a historic property located in the picturesque village of Gradil, Mafra, is hosting for the 14th time the eminent “Festival da nossa Terra”. We celebrate the end of the season and precious life itself, with gastronomy, wine, and dance.
James and Ann Frost, owners of Quinta de Sant’Ana, and their seven boys together with their team and the help of German friends and our “terra” are the hosts of this festival, that emerged as a tribute from the family to their adopted home, Gradil. It began as a modest harvest lunch and is now a regional highlight, having grown tenfold in popularity over the years, attracting both wine lovers and community minded friends from all over the world. The event has a strong charitable aspect – the proceeds raised go to various local institutions.
The programme is tasty. The party starts at 12 noon, you can visit the vineyards and enjoy as many spit-roasted pork sandwiches as you like, topped up with auga-pe (vin de primeur), and the famous hearty Saloio Soups. Not to mention some national delicacies like sweet rice and German specialities such as onion tart and waffles. There is also a chance to win great prizes in a raffle and don’t miss out on handicraft exhibitions and tractor rides through the vineyards.
All this to an array of musical entertainment, including colourful folklore – if you are approached by a blonde German in traditional Bavarian costume, don’t panic, just smile and dance.A Quinta de Sant’Ana, uma propriedade histórica situada na pitoresca aldeia de Gradil, Mafra, acolhe pela 14ª vez o eminente “Festival da nossa Terra”.
